Welcome to Madonna's Center!

Madonna’s Center is a public benefit, volunteer-run, charitable nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status - serving the needs of teen parents and their children in Clackamas County, Oregon.

Our main purpose is to provide for the basic needs of disadvantaged teens who are "with child" - either pregnant or have a child up to the age of 3 years old - and who do not have adequate essential support.

Here, at Madonna’s Center, we recognize the many challenges teen parents face when they make the decision to raise their own child(ren). We know, due to a teen parent’s age and circumstances, they are often not eligible for community social services typically available to low-income adult parents. We understand, it is difficult, as a teen parent to work towards self-sufficiency, complete an educational program, afford necessary baby items, secure stable housing, obtain employment and get access to helpful community resources, such as emergency food assistance.

It has been over 3 years since we opened our first 150 sq. ft. outreach office.  In May 2009, Madonna's Center re-located to better serve teen parents who were enrolled in teen parent education programs within Clackamas County.  Now in Sept. 2011, with the support of a Meyer Memorial Trust fund grant,  we are expanding our outreach office space and realizing the impact of our efforts. One of the main purposes for the mission of Madonna's Center is to decrease the likelihood of teen parents being a high school drop-out. This past June, we started to realize the significance of our "essential support" for at-risk, disadvantaged young famlies.    In one school program, we provided "essential support" to 11 teen parent students.  Because our volunteers, "become like family" they were invited to attend their high school graduation ceremony.   In the process, we learned many of them largely attributed their ability to stay in school to our "hand-UP".  They also proudly proclaimed to be the "first ones in their families to get a high school diploma", thus beginning to break the cycle of generational poverty.  Another teen parent, wrote a "thank you" letter at the end of the school year, showing us how much she appreciated everything we did, both BIG and small, during the rough times.  Imagine trying to go to school, when you live in a tent....and cannot see a better future for yourself or your child.  Now, she wants to get her HS diploma and then go to college and "run Madonna's Center someday".
